Continuing the trend identified in 2010 when police and fire departments saw their budgets reduced just like those of other local government departments, in 2011 police and fire pensions have been on the table in some communities and others have considered increasing the police and fire personnel share of health insurance premiums. Reductions in police and fire personnel have taken place in some local governments as well, and some local governments are exploring shared and contracted services to save costs.
