Prompt Engineering: How Local Governments Should Utilize AI as Part of a Federal Funding Strategy

With billions of dollars in competitive federal grant funding available to local governments every year, communities have ongoing opportunities to advance and complete important projects and achieve positive outcomes for their residents. Analyzing and identifying appropriate grant opportunities, in addition to shaping priority projects in accordance with federal grant guidelines, can often be difficult and laborious. AI analysis, research, and prompt engineering are tools for local governments to help achieve better funding outcomes, faster, and at less cost. This session aims to explore how AI tools can enhance – not replace – your community's current grant-seeking process and help build internal capacity to win more competitive federal grants.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants in this session will be able to learn about existing best practices for applying to federal competitive grant opportunities.
  • Participants will be able to learn about how AI prompt engineering and other AI tools can be effectively utilized as a supplement to the traditional process of applying to federal competitive grant opportunities.
  • Participants will be able to engage in conversation with the presenters and other attendees to share their experiences, ideas and concerns about the use of AI as part of the competitive grant identification and acquisition process.
