This article considers the possibilities for emerging technologies to provide a greater, more timely flow of information for local government managers. It asserts that the resulting information flow will allow managers to make better and faster decisions. In addition, it examines the role that information technology could play in assisting local governments through a wave of impending retirements and new trends such as telecommuting. Finally, it suggests steps for local governments to improve their use of information technology.
