The City of Edmonton has made a number of pioneering choices which put technology to work to improve the lives of the citizens. As part of Edmonton’s strategic plan, the City committed to defining and reporting performance measures to indicate how well the City is progressing toward outcomes. Edmonton was one of the first communities to utilize an open data portal and has since launched the Citizen Dashboard to share performance indicators with constituents. It reflects the City’s dedication to using technology to make municipal information more open, transparent and accessible. The first phase of the dashboard, The Way We Move, offered real-time data about the City’s progress on traffic injury rates, potholes filled, on-time bus arrivals, and other transportation-related information. The City has also made clear its plan to produce five more dashboard sections, which relate to the various aspects of our strategic plan The Way Ahead.
