In May 2007, the Mayor's Advisory Council on Closing the Digital Divide defined a set of goals to achieve digital excellence - universal, meaniful participation in technology - throughout the City of Chicago. Building a vibrant network of community organizations and public agencies that have been addressing technology disparities in the city, the council called for a new focus on digital excellence that would be integral to the city's ability to compete economically in the twenty-first century.
