
For the last 25 years, Uralla Shire Council (USC), a medium-sized (3,229 square km) rural council in New South Wales with a population of 6,034 has been providing community support services to special-needs residents, enabling them to age in place. With a reputation for excellent governance and delivery of services, USC now serves nine adjoining local government areas-a total expanse of 40,415 square kilometers. Community Services Auspiced Programs received the 2013 ICMA Program Excellence Award in the area of Community Health & Safety for populations under 10,000 as part of the ICMA Annual Awards Program.
