ICMA staff reviewed the list of 100 small cities and towns identified by CNN-Money magazine as having the outstanding qualities "American families care about most—great job opportunities, top-notch schools, safe streets, economic strength, nice weather, plenty to do, and more."

The review revealed that out of the top 100 small communities, 66 percent currently either employ an ICMA member (N=60) or have established CAO positions that had previously been filled by an ICMA member (N=6). This information supports the notion that professional local government management makes a significant difference in the quality of life of residents.
