The City of Phoenix’s Public Works Department has a Metro Facilities and Energy Management Division that maintains city facilities and manages energy conservation projects. This division found that the city’s athletic fields have a lighting system that wastes energy; to fix this problem, the division installed new technology that conserved energy, increase safety, reduced energy costs, and reduced wear on the lighting fixtures.
