The city of Des Moines and county of Polk, Iowa, have entered into service sharing agreements in order to improve service delivery and reduce costs. Some community members and the state legislature pushed for governmental consolidation, but a fall 2004 ballot measure failed to consolidate the city and county. The attached roll calls designate approval for city-county service sharing in areas such as human resources, technology, utilities, and public safety. Several of the agreements also provide for service sharing with the independent school district. Also see City-County Service Sharing Team Reports.
