Does this kind of police academy have a place in today’s local government? This article describes the growing use of citizen police academies (CPAs) to improve relations and interactions with the community. Highlights results from a telephone survey of Virginia residents that explored knowledge of, participation in, and perception of CPAs. Contrasts citizen perception of police in jurisdictions that have a CPA with citizen perception of police where there is no CPA.
