The City of Olathe continually ranks high on national lists of the safest cities in America. In no small part, this is due to the City’s intentional ecosystem for new ideas and addressing challenges. Teamwork, learning, and communication are deeply-held values inside the City, and so collaboration is by design. The Police and Fire departments work not only together but also with the other City departments to develop creative ways to strengthen the organization and community and are rewarded for calculated risk-taking by Olathe’s leadership.

Olathe’s fast-paced, engaging presentation will feature Police and Fire operations and administrative personnel summing up a select 30 of their recent innovations in 30 minutes. In only spending one minute on every innovation, the presenters will describe each program, practice, or policy and explain how it was introduced in Olathe and the impact it has had. Following the 30 in 30, the presenters will facilitate a larger conversation with participants to foster the sharing of ideas, successes, or failures of innovations in public safety within their own communities. Plus, the Olathe Fire Department will demonstrate one of its shared innovations: Sidewalk CPR.
