Established in honor of former ICMA executive director Mark Keane, the Award for Career Excellence in Honor of Mark E. Keane recognizes an outstanding local government administrator who has fostered representative democracy by enhancing the effectiveness of local government officials and by consistently initiating creative and successful programs. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of executive, senior-level service to the profession and be endorsed by a past or present elected official. In 2006, ICMA presented the Mark E. Keane Award to John Stunson, city manager of Oakland Park, Florida. This article recognizes Mr. Stunson's success in reestablishing trust within the community and for leading the revitalization and revelopment efforts in the city's eastern corridor.
