ICMA’s Award for Local Government Education recognizes a local government professional, or an individual whose current primary vocation is academic, who has enhanced the understanding of local government for primary and secondary school students. In 1990, ICMA presented the Local Government Education Award to J. Thomas Lundy, county manager, Catawba County, North Carolina. This article describes Mr. Lundy's leadership in developing educational programs within his own jurisdiction and motivating the North Carolina City and County Management Association to do the same.
