What: Release and discussion of the National Resource Network report: Hidden in Plain Sight: Why California’s Economically Challenged Cities Matter to the Federal and State Government
Date: Wednesday, November 18, 2015
Time: 8:00-10:30 AM PST
ICMA helps lead the National Resource Network, which partners with American cities that are rounding the corner from major economic challenges to help them identify and implement new and practical solutions to facilitate their path to economic recovery and growth. On November 18, the Network will release Hidden in Plain Sight: Why California’s Economically Challenged Cities Matter to the Federal and State Government. The report, led by our research partners at NYU Wagner School and funded by the Annenberg Foundation, makes the case for the importance of these cities to the overall state economy – outlining data on number of residents, jobs, GDP, anchor institutions in the state’s roughly 80 economically challenged cities.
Robert Shrum, veteran political consultant and the current Carmen H. and Louis Warschaw Chair in Practical Politics and professor of the practice of political science at USC Dornsife, will moderate the discussion. Please join Antonio Villaraigosa, former Mayor of Los Angeles; Mercedes Márquez, former Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles; Jack Knott, Dean of the Price School of Public Policy; David Chiu, CA State Assemblymember; and others as they discuss why it is critical that we support these economically challenged cities, capitalize on their existing anchor institutions and resources, and unleash their true potential.
The event will be held on USC's campus, in Room 308 (Toyota Conference Room) of Ralph and Goldy Lewis Hall.
For those unable to attend the event in person, join the Network via live-stream on this page.
