CityLinks program manager, Jessica Cho, along with representatives from Fort Lauderdale, is traveling to the Philippines to support Albay Province’s Zero Casualty Policy with the development of scenario maps that can help inform land use plans. This phase of the partnership is resuming after being put on hold due to Typhoon Rammasun and the Mayon Volcano evacuations in 2014.
Representatives from Fort Lauderdale will provide technical assistance to help identify areas that will be particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, specifically sea level rise. Areas identified will be based on impacts due to a change in sea level rise, reviewing multiple scenarios. They will also provide a planning and policy framework to guide the development of land use recommendations to inform a climate adaptive land use plan. While sea level rise projections over time will require additional time and resources outside of the scope of the project, the Fort Lauderdale team will provide the necessary steps and data requirements the city would need to create localized sea level rise projections.
