Many local government professionals go out of their way not to seek recognition for the good that they do for their communities. In a recent episode of ICMA’s podcast, Local Gov Life, Jane Brautigam, city manager, Boulder, Colorado, believes that if local government was doing its job right her residents would “never have to think about government.” With that in mind, Public Service Recognition Week (May 6 to 12) provides an opportunity to recognize the public servants who are behind the scenes doing extraordinary work for the public good. Here are ICMA members who have been recognized for the work they do:

  • Lance Hedquist, city administrator, South Sioux City, Nebraska, received the Nebraska Municipal Power Pool’s (NMPP) Bob Arraj Innovative Service Award at its annual meeting in March 2018. The award recognizes an official or NMPP employee who excels in the areas of service and/or uses innovative technological changes in the utility industry.
  • Bertha Henry, county administrator, Broward County, Florida, was named a 2017 Public Official of the Year by Governing magazine. Last year, Henry received ICMA's 2017 Award for Career Excellence.
  • Bruce Channing, retired Laguna Hills, California, city manager and ICMA Regional Vice President, received the League of California Cities’ 2018 Wes McClure Award in recognition of outstanding service to the profession.
  • Stacy Schweikhart, community relations director, Kettering, Ohio, received a 2017 Route Fifty Navigator Award in the Next Generation category.
