In a thought-provoking presentation, Erica Williams Simon shared with attendees tools their community needs to get the next generation more involved and make a greater impact. How can we connect better with them? Certainly, there is not enough social media or local events to get someone involved in a story they don't want to be a part of as Simon put it. But there are ways local government can lead the millenial generation to become a greater part of their communities and that is by targeting their values. These include:

  1. They are driven. Millenials are driven, looking at every professional opportunity; articulating purpose and measuring impact.
  2. They collaborate. They want to connect and engage.
  3. They prioritize, value and require transparency. This is how decisions are made.
  4. They want more accessibility and greater responsiveness when it comes to projects they are working on.
  5. They are open to change. Ideas and experimentations are something they want to experience.

Millenials are a generation that cares about solutions. How will you lead this young generation to become apart of leadership in your community?
