This week citizens across the United States will collect and celebrate the adoption of the flag of our great nation. With the celebration of Flag Day on June 14, communities have the opportunity to frame their position in the nation by celebrating the heritage of our nation and one of our national symbols. The manner in which a community celebrates Flag Day reflects on their perception of community and country. Review the following Flag Day celebration stories for ideas on how you can share Flag Day with your community:
- The City of White Plains, New York will host a display and share information on historic flags that have represented the United States in the past.
- The City of Quincy, Massachusetts will gather on June 14 for its 63rd Flag Day celebration. The celebration will begin at a local high school, with a parade that will lead to a ceremony and fireworks celebration.
- Military and civilian organizations will gather together on Flag Day in the City of St. George, Utah for a flag retirement ceremony and a military tribute to the flag.
- The City of Brockton, Massachusetts capitalizes on its community diversity and has celebrated Hatian Flag Day with hundreds of its residents every year since the early 1990s.
- A flag retirement ceremony will serve as a celebration of Flag Day for the City of Dearborn, Michigan.
- Medina Township, Ohio will gather this Saturday to celebrate with an exhibition softball game and a flag ceremony.
