Background

Ensuring the language in the Code reflects the values of the profession has been a long-standing priority for ICMA. In 2013, the ICMA Executive Board approved a plan to engage the membership in a structured review of the Code of Ethics (Code). The Code celebrates 100 years of guiding the membership in 2024, and this approach ensures its continued relevance for those working in service to local government.

Ongoing Code Review

The CPC began gathering feedback during conference sessions and state association meetings on Tenets 8 and 10 throughout 2024 and is asking members for additional feedback through this online survey.

Your Feedback is Important

Thank you to the members who have provided feedback through facilitated discussion on these two remaining tenets at conference sessions and state association meetings this year. Feedback from this survey will shape potential revisions to the tenets and their associated guidelines. The CPC will review all comments and responses later this year and determine next steps.
