International Committee members in meeting room
ICMA International Committee discusses issues related to developing ICMA’s worldwide local governance knowledge base.

On March 12, 2023, the ICMA International Committee met in Manila, Philippines, for its first meeting outside of the United States since 2019. The International Committee serves as the primary advisory committee on international issues to the ICMA Executive Board and helps them to implement the board’s policy on international activities. Stay tuned for more information about the meetings and study tour in the Philippines in a future issue of Leadership Matters.

The International Committee received a briefing on ICMA’s international technical assistance programs and discussed current and future opportunities for global capacity building and advocacy for the profession worldwide. Additionally, the committee reviewed its responsibilities related to ICMA’s fellowship programs and discussed future opportunities for partnerships with international local government associations.

ICMA members can sign up to be part of the International Committee, or any of the other ICMA Committees and Task Forces. More information about volunteering and the available options can be found online. The volunteer application is open through April 14, 2023.
