Expressions of interest from candidates who would like to serve as regional vice presidents on the ICMA Executive Board are due January 6, 2020.  Interviews and the selection of nominees will take place in conjunction with the 2020 ICMA Regional Conferences. The election ballot period will take place from May 19 to June 19, 2020. Full information on the nominations process is available online.

Six vice-president positions are open for nomination this year—one from each of the five U.S. regions, as well as one from the international region.  In the United States, at least one vice president from each region must occupy a position other than that of manager/chief executive officer (non-CEO). This year, a non-CEO-designated seat is open for nomination in the Mountain Plains and West Coast regions. However, non-CEOs are eligible for consideration in all regions.

Each U.S. region has agreed on a geographical protocol that defines state rotations for each of the three regional vice-president seats. A summary for 2020 is provided here.  The international protocol identifies Canada as the designated geographical region for this year.

All candidates are asked to provide ICMA with a statement of no more than two pages on their qualifications for the position and on their views of issues facing ICMA, along with a resume. Contributions to ICMA and state or affiliate organizations should also be included. To assist the U.S. regional nominating committees in their selection process, all candidates are asked to participate in an interview to be held during the 2020 ICMA Regional Conference in their respective regions:

Midwest:                  April 22-24, 2020 – Clayton, Missouri

Southeast:               March 4-6, 2020 – Durham, North Carolina

Mountain Plains:       March 25-27, 2020 – Irving, Texas

Northeast:                April 1-3, 2020 – Cambridge, Massachusetts

West Coast:             March 18-20, 2020 – Vancouver, Washington

International:           Interviews Conducted via Web Conference

All nomination materials, regardless of region, should be submitted to nominations@icma.org. Information will then be distributed to each of the regional nominating committees in advance of their regional conference, or in the case of the international region, prior to interviews conducted by phone.

Questions on the process should be directed to nominations@icma.org.
