The digital age has brought about many different ways to connect with residents, peers, and professional associations, and this has no doubt affected how you communicate with these groups. In response to both changing technology and member requests, ICMA communications and delivery methods also evolve over time. Good resources are updated, new resources are developed, and others, if they no longer serve our members, may even be phased out.

The good news is that ICMA members have plenty of choices about what they receive and when they receive it. We have recently updated the ICMA Privacy & Communications Preferences page to reflect new options about the communications you may want (or not want) to receive, so we encourage you to visit this page and make sure ICMA is reaching you with the information you need and want as you lead your community in 2013.

In an effort to unsubscribe from one type of e-mail, people sometimes mistakenly opt out of all e-mails, and miss the very information they count on from organizations like ICMA. Recently, for example, ICMA sent out an invitation to complete the Annual Member Survey, along with an offer to award a free annual conference registration to one lucky respondent. Some members were surprised that they didn’t receive the e-mail invitation until they discovered they were unknowingly unsubscribed to ICMA e-mail communications.

You may be unknowingly opted out of ICMA e-mails or ICMA surveys, so take a moment to update your privacy and communications preferences to stay informed about the programs, services, and issues that matter to you. Contact the ICMA Member & Customer Support Team at membership@icma.org with questions.
