Let’s Activate
The new Task Force for Women in the Profession, created by President-elect Bonnie Svrcek (the second woman president in ICMA history), and chaired by Pamela Antil, assistant city manager/COO, Palo Alto, California, will get down to business at its inaugural meeting on Saturday, October 6, 1:30 – 3:30 pm. This task force was established to review the status of women in the profession and create recommendations and strategies for increasing the presence of women in local government management as ICMA moves into its next 100 years.
Let’s Celebrate
Don’t miss this year’s Luncheon for Women in Professional Local Government Management on Sunday, October 7, 12:45 – 2:45 pm. (Reservations for this year’s event are 50% higher than last year!) Incoming ICMA Executive Board member Mary Jacobs, assistant city manager, Sierra Vista, Arizona, will facilitate a panel of authors from Democracy at the Doorstep, Too, a new book that celebrates women in local government by capturing their stories of lessons learned and experience gained over the years. Thanks to Mike Conduff and Melissa Byrne Vossmer for creating this important collection.
All net proceeds from the sale of the book will be contributed to the Life, Well Run campaign. Thanks to book sponsors ICMA-RC and Utility Service Partners, Inc. for providing a copy of the book for every registered attendee. Additional copies will be available for purchase in the Member Pavilion. Contributing authors will also be in the Pavilion to sign books on Monday, October 8, 2:00 – 3:00 pm, and Tuesday, October 9, 12:15 – 1:15 pm.
Let’s Educate
Don’t miss Advancing Women in Local Government, an educational session on Monday, October 8, 2:30 – 3:40 pm, where panelists will identify challenges that women face in the local government profession from a variety of perspectives and discuss actionable solutions.
Let’s Coordinate
After the educational session, attendees can reconvene in the same room as the educational session, 4-5 pm, to participate in Women in Local Government: Collaboration & Connection, a brainstorming session for women in local government who seek to share information and resources, collaborate on projects, and discuss the connection of current state programming for women.
