ICMA turns 100 in 2014! To get you into a celebratory mood over the next 13 months, we invite you to participate in a series of monthly trivia questions that will test your knowledge of ICMA and the local government management profession!

The first member to respond each month with the correct answer will win an ICMA-anniversary-branded item. This month’s prize is the indispensable anniversary swivel keychain.

Our first bit of trivia takes us back to the early days of the profession:

What was the name, title, and affiliation of the individual who said:

"Why should there not be a distinct profession of municipal managers the same as we now have professions composed of lawyers, of doctors, of engineers, of teachers, of accountants, and others?"

We won’t give you any hints as to who it was, but we will tell you that you will be able to find the answer among the entries in the ICMA anniversary timeline. You’ll find the timeline located at the top of the anniversary website at icma.org/anniversary . Click on any of the decades to enter.

While you’re on the anniversary website, check out “The ICMA Experience,” a collection of stories and reminisces about organization and the profession, as told through the words of your colleagues and friends. Then upload your own story!

To submit your response to this month’s historical trivia quiz, send an email to: anniversary@icma.org. Responses to the November 2013 question must be submitted no later than Friday, November 22. To be eligible to win, you must be an ICMA member and cannot have won in the past six months.
