The State and Local Legal Center (SLLC) is a resource to state and local governments regarding Supreme Court legislation. ICMA, along with other state and local government associations, provide financial support to SLLC and serve on its advisory board.

The Supreme Court accepts a significant number of cases each term that impact state and local government. Amicus briefs help the Court understand the legal ramifications for local and state governments, as well as the practical implications of cases. Since 1983, the SLLC has filed more than 300 amicus briefs in Supreme Court cases affecting state and local government.

In addition to writing amicus briefs, SLLC also conducts moot courts for attorneys arguing a case before the Supreme Court, prepares articles, conducts webinars, and gives presentations to ICMA and other state and local groups to explain the implications of recent decisions and pending Supreme Court cases..
