ICMA President-elect Jim Bennett is seeking a member with an interest in governmental accounting to represent ICMA on the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Committee (GASAC). This panel of approximately 30 members is responsible for advising the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) on technical issues, priorities, and matters that should be brought to its attention. The member does not need to be an accounting expert, but should have an understanding of the impact of accounting and reporting requirements on local governments.

The board meets three times a year and the member’s jurisdiction is asked to cover travel expenses. The two-year term begins in January 2015, with a limit of three terms. Steve Thompson, assistant vice president, University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service, is ICMA’s outgoing representative having served six years.

Members who would like to be considered for this two-year appointment should send an e-mail by June 30 to Christina Barberot describing why they would like to serve and attach a resume.
