Moved earlier in the day to accommodate attendee travel schedules, this year’s ICMA Celebration of Service to the Profession on Wednesday, September 17, 8:30 – 10:30 a.m., will feature a presentation by Peter Kageyama about "bottom up" community development and the people who are making change happen. Kageyama is cofounder and producer of the Creative Cities Summit, an interdisciplinary event that brings together citizens and practitioners around the big idea of the city.
Kageyama is an internationally recognized expert on community development and grassroots engagement, and author of For the Love of Cities, which explores in detail the value of emotional engagement with our cities, how that connection is created and nurtured, and how it can be turned into a development resource for places.
Kageyama’s conference closing presentation, For the Love of Cities, will explore and celebrate what makes cities lovable and what motivates ordinary citizens to do extraordinary things for their places.
Can 719 People Remake Detroit?
"For the Love of Cities" author Peter Kageyama talks about his idea that 1/10th of one percent can make a huge difference in a city, along with attracting those people to the city and the challenges involved. (5:40)
