The July PM magazine’s cover story “Management Matters in Three Acts” provides a sense of ICMA’s Annual Conference Keynoter Rebecca Ryan’s infectious style and point of view.

One of the sticky management questions she is often asked and subsequently addresses in the cover story is, “How Do I Manage Up?” This question can be asked by a younger local government manager when some of the team members are older than the manager. The key, she says, is to ignore everyone’s age and focus on two R words: respect and results.
