Larimer County’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Mapping Group announces the release of their latest GIS Web Map Application, Landscape and Imagery Explorer at http://maps1.larimer.org/LandscapeExplorer/.

Want to see your neighborhood, a property, a home, five years ago? This user-friendly application will provide citizens with a unique view of Larimer County through customer-controlled displays of aerial/satellite imagery, terrain, and traditional United States Geologic Survey (USGS) 1:24,000 Quad maps compiled over time. This application can also be viewed in tandem with the County’s current Land information Locator (LiL, http://maps1.larimer.org/apps/lcparlocator/ ) through simple buttons provided on each application.

Current LiL users will find that GIS has left only one year of the highest-resolution imagery in the dropdown theme menu, and are providing ALL years of our imagery in this new application.

This application empowers the end user to create overlays from these datasets through the use of ‘transparency’ slider bars, and/or pre-determined views. Toolboxes and Vicinity Map have the ability to easily be displayed or collapsed to improve the map ‘real estate’ as needed. This is one application that citizens will enjoy ‘tinkering’ with, since the variety of displays that can be created and viewed are seemingly endless.

Suggested uses:

· Watch a property’s changes over time

· Supports Emergency Services’ Fire Fighting and Search and Rescue efforts

· Visualization of the varied terrain and drainage basins in Larimer County.

· Seamless view of traditional USGS map product
