National County Government Month (NCGM) is celebrated each April by the nation's counties to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of local government. On April 5, county leaders, along with city officials, will hold public events and use media to highlight the impact of national service to the nation’s counties and inspire more citizens to serve.

Counties participate in NCGM by hosting a variety of community outreach events and activities. These include holding an open house where county employees are available to discuss the services, encouraging volunteerism, informing local media about NCGM and your county's plans to celebrate it, and using social media to promote your NCGM events.

To help celebrate NCGM and assist the National Association of Counties (NACo) in encouraging counties to actively promote county government programs and services, ICMA will be providing weekly tips and best practices on topics including: media relations, how to build a successful volunteer program, social media strategies, and more.

Here is the first post to kick-off NCGM: How to Give Effective Presentations to the Public.
