Event to be held in conjunction with ICMA’s 100th Annual Conference in Charlotte.
WASHINGTON, D.C.—ICMA, the International City/County Management Association, together with its long-time strategic partner, Esri, and MindMixer, will join together to sponsor Hackstock for #LocalGov, a two-day event during which computer programmers will develop new technology applications for addressing community problems and engaging citizens in community dialogue. The event will take place Saturday, September 13 (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and Sunday, September 14 (9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) at the Charlotte Convention Center.
During the hackathon, Charlotte-area web developers and university students will use data from jurisdictions to create new apps. Local governments from across North America (listed under “Community Technology Profiles”) have volunteered to work with and make their data available to programmers in advance of the event. Hackstock for #LocalGov brings together local government personnel and developers to foster innovation in government via collective problem solving. Esri and ICMA have enlisted the help of the City of Charlotte and the Code for Charlotte Brigade to recruit developers and civic innovators to participate in this second annual event.

Through the apps developed at Hackstock, we hope to provide new information portals and tools to inform decision makers and the public.”
Websites with data portal access and links to Esri developer tools—sample code, APIs, SDKs, and map viewers—will be supplied to all teams, giving participants a one-stop resource for creating applications that display authoritative national data. Esri staff will also be present throughout the hackathon in Charlotte to provide hands-on technical assistance.
