 Guitar Gallery: The Quest for Volume presents 55 vintage, world-changing guitars from the 1770s to the present

Within Seattle Center, beside the Space Needle and actually wrapped around the Monorail, you’ll find a spectacular building covered in bright, rolling waves of sheet metal.* Created by Microsoft cofounder Paul G. Allen, EMP is dedicated to exploring creativity and innovation in American popular music, from rock ‘n’ roll to jazz, soul, gospel, country, blues, hip-hop, punk, and other genres. Inside the Frank O. Gehry−designed 140,000-square-foot museum you will discover exciting, interactive exhibits that explore the rich history and current state of popular music. You can experience the creative process by listening to musicians tell their own stories. On Stage simulates a live performance with you in the spotlight while Sound Lab teaches you the basics of such musical instruments as a keyboard and guitar. Don’t leave without taking in “Roots and Branches,” a sculpture of musical instruments that can break into a melody at any moment, or the Guitar Galley, which chronicles the history of the rock star’s sidekick, the "axe".

You can also explore a one-of-a-kind collection of artifacts and memorabilia of works by Isaac Asimov, Ursula Le Guin, H. G. Wells, George Lucas, Gene Rodenberry, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, and other luminaries of the science fiction genre and pop culture. Current exhibits include What’s Up Doc?
