The City of West Hollywood has launched a redesign of the mobile version of its official City website www.weho.org. The new mobile site design uses a more familiar smartphone look and feel with colorful user-friendly icons and intuitive search functions, which are tiered to bring the most popular and engaging content to the forefront for mobile users. The mobile site launches automatically on any smartphone or tablet, such as an iPhone, iPad, or Android device. It is also viewable from any traditional desktop or laptop computer by resizing the browser application window to mimic the size of a smartphone device.

The redesign of the mobile site is one more initiative from the City to continuously foster innovation and communication tools to better serve the public. West Hollywood City Hall is committed to broadening its communications reach across new technologies. The City’s website receives an average of approximately 160,000 page views each month; 30 percent of visits to www.weho.org come from mobile devices. The City’s Public Information Office worked with Vision Internet, which specializes in creating unique, robust websites for local government agencies, to develop a strong mobile redesign with the goal of greatly enhancing user experience.

West Hollywood is a highly digitally connected community and the City’s website is a model for municipalities across the nation in providing an engaging digital platform for community members to access timely information about the City. In 2010, the City of West Hollywood won the Web Marketing Association’s WebAward for Outstanding Achievement in Web Development as the Best Government Website and in 2011 the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) awarded the City of West Hollywood its Award of Distinction for its website.

In addition to its website, the City engages the use of more than a dozen social media outlets as a key part of its civic engagement and public information efforts. These include multiple pages and feeds on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, Pinterest, Foursquare, YouTube, and Tumblr, as well as the use of civic engagement platforms such as MindMixer and Neighborland. A complete list of the City’s social media links is available by visiting www.weho.org/socialmedia.
