A garage sale, which could be advertised online and thus remove the step of posting signs that never get taken down!

This new initiative by the City of Stayton, as covered by Denise Ruttan in statesmanjournal.com, presents an innovative way in working to ensure more compliance from citizens in avoiding the posting of illegal garage sale signs around the area.  This flaunting of the law derives from citizen sentiments that the sign restrictions are too strict, and as such the city decided to circumvent the various angered parties about signage by offering a unified place for all garage sale advertisements on their website.  In this way, no citizen can feel denied equal exposure due to living on a side street versus a main street, and other citizens won't become angry about illegally-posted signs.  As the article explains,

"Garage sales are advertised on the city's website at www.staytonoregon.gov. Shoppers can print a list of garage sales from the city's website. The city has also partnered with www.StaytonEvents.com, a website run by former city council member Dave Nielson. Nielson's website lists garage sales daily and provides a link to Google Map directions for each sale.  Listings are added to the city's website as soon as people apply for a garage sale permit at city hall, which is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday."
