ICMA congratulates Craig Kocian, former city manager of Arvada, Colorado, 1997–2011, and ICMA member since 1972, on receiving both the Special Recognition Award from the Economic Development Council of Colorado and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado City/County Management Association. Kocian was influential in the success of Arvada’s economic development efforts and in the redevelopment of Olde Town Arvada.
When speaking with ICMA staff, Kocian said, "These awards do not happen because an individual stands out but rather because of the teamwork that the community brings to the task of economic development. I was privileged to be consistently supported by the mayor and council and their policy leadership, by the volunteers of the Arvada Economic Development Association, and by great staff work."
Throughout his ICMA membership, Kocian has served on many different committees, including serving as president of the Colorado City/County Management Association, 2001–02, and as president elect, 2000–01.
