ICMA congratulates Robert A. Kipp on receiving the University of Kansas College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, which recognizes graduates’ contributions to the university, their professions, and their communities and is the highest honor bestowed by the college. When ICMA staff spoke with Kipp about his reward, he said, “the recognition is about profession as much as it is about me.”

While serving as the city manager of Kansas City, Mo., from 1974 to 1983, he oversaw the completion of the Kansas City International Airport and the Kemper Arena. Kipp has also been an active member of ICMA since 1955 and served as president of the ICMA Executive Board 1977-78 and as ICMA vice president 1975-77.  While on the board, he established the Future Horizons Committee, which examined effective city/county management and helped determine the future of local government management.

Kipp continues to make his mark through his efforts with the Crown Center redevelopment in Kansas City, Hallmark Cards, and his dedication to service and philanthropy in the Kansas City region.
