In September, West Columbia, South Carolina, overcame an aggressive challenge to its current council-manager form of government by a 2-to-1 margin. Next month, a large city in the West Coast region will face a similar challenge. In each case, monies from ICMA’s Fund for Professional Management were donated to fund the work of local community groups as they fight to preserve the council-manager form and professional management.

Since its inception nearly 30 years ago, ICMA’s Fund for Professional Management has supported citizens’ groups in more than 100 cities, towns, and counties across the United States as they work to adopt or retain the council-manager system—recognized as the form of government best suited to facilitate the ongoing success of our communities—and professional local government management. And we want to continue to provide this much-needed assistance.

The financial support and resources provided through the ICMA Fund are made possible thanks to the generosity of individuals like you. Please consider supporting the Fund by making a gift as we approach the November 2014 election cycle. Your gift will enable ICMA to continue to provide assistance to those communities that want to retain or adopt the council-manager form or establish a position of professional local government management.

Thank you for ensuring that the ICMA Fund continues this important work.
