This past May 11-12, 26 participants gathered for the annual LOGMAN conference at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe. Attendees enjoyed two days of meetings and presentations as well as social and networking events.

Orlando Sanchez, Deputy City Manager for the City of Las Vegas, will continue as President and Sabra Smith Newby, City Manager for the City of Reno, will continue to serve as Vice President. Christine Vuletich, Assistant County Manager, Finance and Administration for Washoe County, and Kathleen Walpole, Management Analyst for Clark County, will continue to serve as Directors.

Featured Program Presentations:

  • Dr. Mia Mulrennan hosted a strategic planning session regarding how LOGMAN can increase recruitment and how to redefine the organization for members to collaborate on issues.
  • Siemens provided a renewable energy presentation and how local governments can learn about the best practices related to the subject area.
  • Bruce Channing, ICMA West Coast Regional Vice President and City Manager for Laguna Hills, CA, provided a report about ICMA and the Western Region of ICMA.
  • Sabra Smith Newby, City Manager for the City of Reno, and Ted Olivas, Chief of Staff for the City of Las Vegas, started the dialogue surrounding the 2017 Nevada Legislative Session. Issues related to property taxes, elections, short-term rentals, and guardians were discussed.
  • A roundtable discussion was held to discuss the issues surrounding recreational marijuana in Nevada. The roundtable discussion was followed by a presentation led by HDL Companies. As a company, HDL has a specialized division that provides resources and expertise to local governments with the design and implementation of regulatory and taxation policies and programs as they relate to marijuana.
  • Dr. Mia Mulrennan closed the conference by delivering a keynote covering the challenges of recruiting and maintaining a top notch workforce throughout local government of Nevada.

During the LOGMAN business meeting, Kevin Duggan, ICMA Staff Liaison, provided an update about the 2017 ICMA Annual Conference and the ICMA Secretariat Relationship.  The 2018 LOGMAN Conference Planning Committee was also formed during the business meeting.
