The Planner I will perform a wide range of planning activities and assist with special projects that help shape the future of Arlington Heights. From reviewing development proposals and zoning applications to preparing reports and presenting recommendations, the Planner I is instrumental in supporting the Village’s planning efforts. The Planner I will also work directly with residents, business owners, developers, architects, and contractors to provide guidance on zoning requirements, design standards, signage, and the Village’s review processes.
This role provides the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nearly every facet of municipal planning, including comprehensive plan updates, economic development initiatives, and the research and development of code amendments. In addition, the position supports the work of Village Boards and Commissions, preparing and presenting reports, serving as staff liaison, and ensuring that recommendations are consistent with good planning principles and Village regulations.
The ideal candidate will bring strong written and verbal communication skills, technical proficiency with planning software and tools such as GIS and AutoCAD, and the ability to create clear and compelling graphics, maps, and presentations. A Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning or a closely related field is required, along with at least three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The anticipated starting salary for this position is $91,421 - $93,949, with a full salary range of $91,421-$123,421. The Planner I will work a 37.5-hour work week and will be offered a diverse and competitive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, paid vacation, opportunities for professional development and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan.
