The Village of Newton Falls is a charming, historic, and walkable community located in southwestern Trumbull County, Ohio. Conveniently situated between Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, and Pittsburgh, the Village is home to just under 5,000 residents across 2.39 square miles. Newton Falls takes its name from the two sets of waterfalls within the community and is known for its unique ZIP code 44444 and its covered bridge, the second oldest in Ohio.
Position: Zoning Administrator
The Village of Newton Falls is seeking a qualified individual to serve as its next Zoning Administrator. This is a full-time position and the sole role within the Zoning Department. The Zoning Administrator will perform highly responsible and complex administrative and technical work involving the planning, organization, coordination, and enforcement of the Village’s zoning regulations. The position reports directly to the City Manager and requires extensive independent judgment and initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and coordinate zoning application, review, and enforcement efforts.
- Prepare, process, and present zoning appeals to the Planning and Zoning Committee.
- Collaborate with Village departments to manage budget, personnel, and administrative functions.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with department heads, contractors, community members, and the general public.
- Interpret engineering drawings and plans, and manage multiple projects with deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Demonstrated computer literacy.
- Good physical health and bondable.
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, criminal justice, construction management, planning, zoning, or community development; OR
- Three years of professional experience in municipal administration, planning, zoning, code enforcement, or community development; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) – Certified Planner.
- Eligibility to obtain AICP certification.
- Extensive knowledge of the Village of Newton Falls planning and zoning rules, regulations, and codified ordinances.
Compensation & Benefits
The starting salary for this position ranges from $45,760 to $52,000 per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package provided to all full-time Village employees.
