The City of Muskegon Heights, “The City of Friendly People,” seeks an energetic public servant who works well in a close-knit community. Muskegon Heights is located in desirable southwest Michigan, only four miles from the eastern shore of Lake Michigan and less than 40 miles from Grand Rapids. The city was chartered in 1903 and covers approximately 3.8 square miles. The city’s population is 9,917, and it is one of the oldest communities in the southwest quadrant of Muskegon County.

The city seeks an experienced city manager with exemplary communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and an individual who seeks an opportunity for success and can lead the staff toward positive results. Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, organizational leadership, or an appropriate related field. The council desires a minimum of three years of municipal management.

Municipal managers with seven or more years of experience without a four-year degree will also be considered. Skills and experience desired include utility management, economic development, budgeting and finance, human resources, and labor relations. The city is seeking an approachable, transparent, and accountable visionary leader. The starting salary range for the position is $110,000 to $120,000.
