A very interesting report filed by the Public Works Department for the City of Yakima, Washington. In an effort to examine what the public works jobs had on their employees bodies, the city commissioned an ergonomics study in 2004 that sought to evaluate the daily responsibilities of the entire workforce. While doing so, they discovered that certain jobs, like bus drivers and maintenance workers, had "caution zone jobs", or jobs that required a large amount of bending, twisting, pulling and other body contortions that led to ergonomic distress. Virtually every type of job in the public works department was examined and recommendations for ergonomic improvements are made at the end of the report. Extremely interesting read for all local government professionals.
