The City of Miami Beach sees 25% of its residents use buses, walking, or bicycling as a primary means of transportation. In support of these residents, the city engaged in beach and baywalk projects. The aim was to increase commuter safety and expand the Atlantic Greenway Network.
Since the adoption of the projects, 15 miles of pathways were constructed. The projects also restored dune systems which protect properties from storm surges and provide habitats for native species.
This case study was nominated for ICMA's Annual Awards Program.
