This is the 2010 nomination of Alexandria, Virginia's Spring for Alexandria program for the Community Partnership Award. City Manager James K. Hartmann is credited with aiding in the development of this three day celebration of giving and community service. This event strives to promote community pride and awareness of the City's nonprofit organizations, establish a group of volunteers to serve the City throughout the year and in case of disaster or emergency, and to serve as a replicable model of a public-private partnership. In 2009, there were 1,500 volunteers who donated more than 6,000 hours. In total, they provided about $120,000 in service to the community.
