On Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 8.30 a.m. Douglas County, Nevada local time; Bobbie Williams, the Court Administrator/Clerk of Court/Jury Commissioner for Douglas County, took my friend Wulan and I to the Courts in Nevada (he he we just visited the courts actually, we not yet do something wrong, until nowJ). Since it was a first time in the Court for both of us, I remember how serious and scary we were during our observation of the ongoing sessions in the courtrooms. It was a great experience though ^..^

This Judicial tour day allowed us gaining many new experiences, and understanding more about the U.S judiciary, in particular in Nevada. Generally, if I am not wrong, the processes of U.S judiciary have started from Justice Court, District Court Arraignment, A presentence investigation (PSI) Report, Sentencing, and ended with Supreme Court (if there is appeal). Note: please do more research about this, then share me and others what it actually is, okay (thank you in advanceJ)

Here in the U.S, for the criminal justice, although you are poor and/or cannot afford hiring a lawyer, the government will responsible for the lawyers’ payment, to make sure individuals’ rights are protected. That’s great!

Surprisingly, a dead penalty sentence, one of the world controversial issues, is practiced in the state of Nevada. I first thought the majority of people here see the dead penalty as a moral failure, but they instead view it as a fair solution. Anyway, yes, different places have different point of view; that’s why the judiciary vary from one state to another.

Um, and you know that, there is a Service Dog working for comforting sentenced people in the courtroom, interesting, right? This reminds me that even the dogs can do many good things for community. So as a human, I should do more and many more for my community (lol, how can I come up with this theory:D)

Okay before finishing this blog, I’d like to say thank you to Jim Nichols, Douglas County Manager for organizing this incredible “court experience” for us. Thanks judge Young in the District Court Arraignment for briefing about the day cases to us before we entered the courtroom (to make sure we won’t get lost during our observation, but sorry we didJ). Thank you judge Glasson and his sweet and kind hearted wife Susan for sharing many interesting viewpoints, and stories, from the Tahoe sugar pines indigenous trees, black bears vision fact, to the Mexico, India and South East Asia trips (including what you did for my home country, Laos, and our neighbor country, Cambodia; millions of thanks for your goodwill), and the lunch treat. It’s the best Latin cuisine ever!

Thanks Robin Sweet (I love your surname!) at the Supreme Court for providing us an informative background about Nevada judiciary (and the Lady Justice insight, we then managed to find her statue the later day in Virginia City, yep she’s unblindfolded). Also, thanks to all ladies in the Law Library there for taking us around, and allowing us touched and pictured the old law books (including the MAGNACHARTA, 1587). And special thanks to Bobbie for your great accompany. You were the highlight of the day, you know that?

Finally I would like to take my hat off to all courts’ staff here. They are all work hard for keeping peace, fairness and security to the communities.
