One of ICMA’s advocacy objectives is to help establish and strengthen the partnership between local government elected officials and chief appointed officers. Many newly elected officials may not be aware of the role that CAOs play in their city, town, or county.

For first-time elected officials, ICMA gathered a selection of resources for a toolkit that addresses such topics as running effective meetings and engaging with the public, along with how-to information on hiring and evaluating professional local government managers.
