As local government professionals, it is important to keep up to date on the latest from Capitol Hill. With this in mind, here are a few highlights from Congress that ICMA wants you to know:
- As the Senate struggles to gain enough Republican support to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, talks intensify on tax reform and budget legislation.
- The clock is ticking to raise the debt ceiling and other must-pass legislation in September, including the Children's Health Insurance Program and the Federal Aeronautic Administration’s authorization.
- The path forward is difficult, given a House Committee directive that tax cuts be revenue neutral. An FY 2018 budget resolution also will need to pass to trigger the budget reconciliation process.
