The closing session of the ICMA 2012 conference began with a celebration of ICMA members' commitment to the profession and to their communities.

ICMA congratulates the 2012 Distinguished Service Award recipients G. Curtis Branscome and Arne Croce, both long-term local government managers. Congratulations, too, to the 2012 Service Award recipients, including R. Marvin Townsend, (55 years); Ross Michael Amyx, Donald Bradley, Joseph D’Arco, R. Michael Eastland, and Frank Spence (45 years). Another 49 members have 40 years of service, and the 35-Year, 30-Year, and 25-Year categories have a combined total of 415 award recipients.

Additionally, ICMA applauds the 2012 Service Award winners, recognizing their otstanding contributions to community health, safety, sustainability, and local government organizational culture. Recipients included:

  • Community Health and Safety Program Excellence Award (populations 10,000 to 49,999): Cross Keys Water Project—Doylestown Township, PA, and township manager Stephanie J. Mason and Buckingham Township, PA and township manager Dana Sime Cozza, and Plumstead Township, PA, and township manager Carolyn McCreary.
  • Community Health and Safety Program Excellence Award (populations 50,000 and greater): City of Good Neighbors—Fort Smith, AR, and city administrator Raymond W. Gosack and deputy city administrator Jeffrey W. Dingman.
  • Community Partnership (populations under 10,000): Right Brain & The Emotional Draw—Bayside, WI and village manager Andrew K. Pederson and deputy village manager Alex J. Henderson.
  • Community Partnership (populations 10,000 to 49,999): Municipal Partnering Initiative (MPI)—Glenview, IL, and village manager Lawrence Todd Hileman and Lake Forest, IL, and city manager Robert R. Kiely, Jr.
  • Community Partnership (populations 50,000 and greater): Together Townsville—Townsville, Queensland, Australia, and chief executive officer Raymond J. Burton.
  • Community Sustainability (populations under 10,000): Westlake Windows: Transparent Government in Focus (TGIF)—Westlake, TX, and town manger Thomas E. Brymer.
  • Community Sustainability (populations 10,000 to 49,999): San Pablo Avenue Streetscape Project— El Cerrito, CA, and city manager Scott Hanin, assistant city manager Karen E. Pinkos and environmental services division manager Melanie Mintz.
  • Community Sustainability (populations 50,000 and greater): Environmental Deconstruction—Lethbridge, AB, Canada, and city manager Garth Sherwin.
  • Strategic Leadership and Governance (populations 10,000 to 49,999): A.C.T.I.O.N.! Mission Rollout Meetings—Wheat Ridge, CO, city manager Patrick L. Goff, and administrative services director/public information officer Heather M. Geyer.
  • Strategic Leadership and Governance (populations 50,000 and greater): I VALUE Campaign—Hampton, VA, and city manager Mary B. Bunting.
