The Waters Consulting Group, an ICMA Strategic Partner, recently offered a complimentary online assessment ($450 per person value) to all 170 of ICMA’s members in transition (MITs). The “SuccessFactor” assessment tool can help determine an individual’s unique achievement profile, and it offers suggestions on how managers can enhance skill sets to match the requirements of today’s changing professional environment.

This new offer by Waters is one of many benefits that members in transition receive through ICMA. Other benefits include waived membership dues, complimentary conference registration, travel stipend scholarship opportunities, access to the virtual conference archive, one free webconference per month, and printed and electronic support materials. ICMA also lists MITs in Leadership Matters with their permission, provides bimonthly conference calls where MITs can share advice and support, and offers valuable access to ICMA Range Riders.

During bimonthly conference calls, MITs have provided positive feedback on all of these benefits, but they are most appreciative of you—their colleagues who have offered job leads, temporary projects, or words of encouragement.

If you have not reached out to a member in transition or if it has been a while since you checked in on a colleague who is between jobs, please consider doing so today. Sometimes MITs are hesitant to initiate contact with busy colleagues, so a monthly phone call or e-mail initiated by you is appreciated more than you may ever know. It is never a bad time to reach out.

Your support makes all the difference as MITs negotiate a successful return to local government management.
