CONFERENCE SESSION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tour of VisArts at Rockville

VisArts is one component of the redeveloped downtown Rockville. It is an arts center dedicated to engaging the community in the arts and providing opportunities for artistic exploration, education and participation. It provides educational programming, gallery exhibitions and a resident artist program. The space was funded and built in partnership with the City of Rockville and Montgomery County.

  • Tour of the College Gardens Park and Pond

The College Gardens park and stormwater management pond was selected by the American Public Works Association as the 2012 Public Works Project of the Year. The park successfully blends attractive amenities with functional stormwater management. The park and pond was redesigned with the help of neighbors and serves as a focal point for the neighborhood.

  • Demonstration by the Rockville Police K-9 Unit

The Rockville Police Department’s K-9 Unit is an asset to the Police force. Officers Boomer and Recon are German Shepherds imported from the Czech Republic. They completed rigorous training and patrol school before joining the force. Handled by Corporal Kyle Dickerson and Corporal Heath Marshall, the K-9 Unit primarily searches for illegal items, locates missing persons, tracks articles and protects their human officers.

  • Tour of the Rockville Police Station

The new Rockville Police Station opened in the fall of 2012 and represents a successful adaptive reuse. Formerly a United States Post Office, the property retains some of the historic aspects of the design and structure. The new Station includes an addition that fits with the historic structure and accommodates the Department’s needs. The acquisition and construction involved a partnership between the City, Federal Government, State of Maryland and local and state historic commissions.

  • Thursday Reception and Dinner at Gordon Beirsch, Rockville Town Square

Special Note:

Maryland is hosting the 2018 ICMA Conference in Baltimore! Plans are underway and there’s much more planning to be done. Serving as the hosts will involve partnering with ICMA staff on fundraising, organizing social events and gathering volunteers for support during the conference. We will use some time on Friday of the spring conference agenda to continue the planning, and invite all conference attendees to join in this exciting effort.

To ensure your participation, please fill out the Registration Form and submit with registration fees made payable to the City of Rockville no later than April 16, 2013.
